DESCRIPTION:**[Arduino](http://arduino.cc/)** is an amazingly powerful too
l that is very simple to learn to use. It was designed so that artists and
non-geeks can start from nothing\, and make something cool happen in less
than 90 minutes. Yet\, it is powerful enough so that experienced expert g
eeks can use it for their projects as well. \n \nThis workshop is easy e
nough for _**total newbies**_ to **learn all you need to know to get going
on an Arduino.** \n \nParticipants will make their own Arduino clone\,
and set it up on solderless breadboards to make their own [TV-B-Gone](http

lesson to learn everything you need to know about electronics!\n* Then we
will learn to solder. Don't let this scare you! I've taught tens of thousa

their lives. It is actually a very easy skill to learn. It is also very us
eful.\n* Then we will each make our own Arduino clone from a kit.\n* Now t
hat we each have our own Arduino board\, we will set up the free and open-
source *Arduino software* on our laptops (if you bring one) -- Windows\, L
inux\, and MacOS are all fine!\n* And then its time to make something and
learn how easy it is to use Arduino! I'll (very easily!) show you how to r
ead schematic diagrams\, and you'll put together your own TV-B-Gone remote
control using your Arduino clone board. We will use a solderless breadboa

DESCRIPTION:# Build Your Own Air Quality Sensor\n\nAir pollution affects m
any people’s daily lives\, not only those living near industrial centres
. In Ireland\, official air quality monitoring relies on a limited number
of sensors\, so local and short-term pollution sources can be missed. In t
his 90-minute\, hands-on workshop\, you’ll build your own particulate ma
tter (PM2.5) air quality sensor using a kit of off-the-shelf parts\, then
connect it to the Internet so you can view and share the data.\n\n## Senso
 r.Community\n[Sensor.Community](https://sensor.community/) is an open\, gl
obal citizen science network where people build low-cost sensors and share
environmental data. Once your device is online\, it can publish readings
so you can track trends over time and compare data across different locati
 ons.\n\n## What You’ll Learn\nDuring the workshop\, you’ll assemble a
working PM2.5 air quality sensor and get it online. We’ll cover the basi
cs of IoT devices\, local data collection\, and how to publish readings to
Sensor.Community. You’ll also learn what the numbers mean\, what these
sensors are good for\, and where their limits are.\n\n## Materials\nYou’
 ll work with:\n- ESP8266 board\n- SDS011 particulate matter sensor (PM2.5
 and PM10)\n- BME280 sensor (temperature\, humidity\, air pressure)\n- USB
 cable\n- Jumper wires\n- Plastic tube (air inlet)\n\n## Requirements\n- A
device with a web browser and WiFi\, such as a phone or laptop\n- All setu

DESCRIPTION:### EMF Explorer Badge Soldering Workshop\n\nIn this hands-on
build-and-explore workshop\, participants assemble their own **[EMF Explor
er Badge](https://emfexplorer.space)** using guided soldering instruction\
, learn the science of electromagnetic frequency bands\, and plug in headp
hones to *listen* to the invisible world around them. Every participant ta
kes home their own exploration kit: badge + headphones\, ready for EMF exp
loring with an illuminated badge that can be used at night for visibility
 and bling.\n\n---\n\n##### Material Costs\n€20 - €30\n\n---\n\n##### W
orkshop Itinerary\n- **Welcome + Electronics and Soldering Info** We will
show you how to solder. Anyone who can safely hold a soldering iron can do
it! It is actually a very easy skill to learn. It is also very useful. \
n- **EMF Explanation and Badge Creation Overview** Learn about what EMF is
\, where it comes from\, and how the badge works. \n- **Badge Assembly**
Get to soldering! We will be available to help you along the way. \n- **
 Check your work\, and power up your badge!** \n- **Wrap-Up + Q&A** \n- **L
ive Exploration!** You are surrounded by interesting electronics at 39C3.
Go exploring! What new sounds do you hear? Some of the most unassuming ele
ctronics can make the most interesting sounds. \n\n---\n\n##### Registrati
on Info\nBuy a kit at the Hardware Hacking Area to guarantee a seat\, or c
ome by early! (And please do arrive early\, regardless!) First-come\, firs
t-served.\n- **Age:** anyone who can safely hold a soldering iron\n- **Exp

DESCRIPTION:**Surface Mount Electronics Assembly for Terrified Beginners**
\n \nIn this workshop\, we will learn to handle the tiniest electronic
components\, which are used to make modern electronic devices. We will che
at the same way the electronics industry does\, and learn the techniques o
f stencil paste printing and reflow soldering. You will learn a technique
that stops your hands from shaking\, so you can very very precisely place
microscopic parts. We will make an electronic cat that purrs if you handle
it correctly. No prior experience or knowledge of anything electronic nee
ded. Caffeine use is not recommended immediately before. All tools are pro
vided. Takes around 2 hours. \n \n**Materials costs**: \n20€ if you
want to make a board\, free to observe. \n \n**Taught by** Kliment.

DESCRIPTION:What is a **[Brain Machine](https://cornfieldelectronics.com/c
 fe/projects.php#brainmachine)**? It's a fascinating device that generates
light and sound pulses at brainwave frequencies. These can help achieve va
rious states of consciousness\, such as meditation or improved sleep. \n
\nIn this workshop for **total beginners** we will all make a **[Brain Ma
 chine](https://cornfieldelectronics.com/cfe/projects.php#brainmachine)** t
hat is preprogrammed with a really nice meditation sequence. As well as a
device that can help you relax and meditate\, a nice bonus is that everyon
e hallucinates beautiful colors and patterns along the way. \n \nThe Bra
in Machine is totally [open hardware](https://github.com/maltman23/Brain_M
achine_kit)\, and created to be hackable\, so you can re-program it with a
ny computer\, with software that is free to download and use. \n \nThis
workshop is for **total beginners** to learn to solder. \n \nFor ages 10
  - 100. \n \n**Materials costs**: \nThe workshop is free\, but if you w
ould like to partake in the hands-on aspects of the workshop\, Mitch will
have Brain Machine kits for **€25**. \n \n**Taught by** [Mitch Altman]
 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitch_Altman). \n \n_**Optional**: Bring
your laptop if you want to go home with the free Arduino software installe
d on it. \nArduino software runs on Windows\, MacOS and Linux._ \n\n_**I
MPORTANT NOTE:** The Brain Machine uses blinking lights\, and is not recom
mended for people who are photosensitive._\n \n**Workshop Itinerary**: \
n* Intro to Sound & Light Machines\n* Learn to solder. Don't let this scar
e you! I've taught tens of thousands of people to solder\, most of whom ha
ve never made anything before in their lives. It is actually a very easy s
kill to learn. It is also very useful.\n* How to re-program your Brain Mac
hine for creating other brainwave sequences \n \n**Registration**: \nBu
